PKBGT INVITATIONAL: Polo is golden

On Monday, November 12, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the third round of the PKBGT INVITATIONAL @ Grandover Resort (East Course). Host of the annual Bridgestone Golf Collegiate tournament, the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf regional tournament, and the 2011 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf National Championship, Grandover Resort (East Course) is a challenging course for this three-day event. The event features a field of 31 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

Lucia Polo (Greensboro, NC 2013) wins PKBGT INVITATIONAL @ Grandover Resort (East Course) and is named golden, again!

Polo (Greensboro, NC 2013) finished first at seven over par with scores of 71 + 77 + 75 = 223. Jessica Porvasnik (Hinckley, OH 2013) placed second at 12 over par with scores of 77 + 77 + 74 = 228. Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015) placed third at 12 over par with scores of 73 + 79 + 76 = 228. Dignitaries from the Greensboro Sports Commission, Greensboro Convention & Visitor Bureau, and Greensboro Sports Council were in attendance for this exciting final round

The PKBGT INVITATIONAL concluded the sixth season for the PKB Tour. The tour returns in the end of January at the 2013 Kick-Off Bulldog Classic @ University of Georgia GC.

Polo leads after round 2 of PKBGT INVITATIONAL

The event features a field of 53 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

After round two, Lucia Polo (Greensboro, NC 2013) is leading the field by four strokes at four over par with scores of 71 + 77 = 148. Not far behind Polo is Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015) in second at eight over par with scores of 73 + 79 = 152. Alexandra Farnsworth (Nashville, TN 2014) is in third at nine over par with scores of 77 + 76 = 153. There are five other players within seven stokes of the leader. For Championship Monday, the field was cut to the lowest 30 scores plus ties.

The PKBGT INVITATIONAL is the fifth and final major of the year, bringing together the top players from the Carolinas, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia. Who will be golden? The weather for Monday looks sunny with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. Ideal for scoring low. It should be an exciting conclusion to the PKBGT INVITATIONAL tournament.

Moosa, Polo lead after round 1 of INVITATIONAL

Gina Kim (Chapel Hill, NC 2018), Cecily Overbey (High Point, NC 2014), and Sarah Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) are four stokes behind the leaders at three over par with scores of 75.

PKBGT Invitational Event Preview

The 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour tees off Saturday, Novemer 10 to Monday, November 12 at the PKBGT INVITATIONAL @ Grandover Resort (East Course). Host of the annual Bridgestone Golf Collegiate tournament, the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf regional tournament, and the 2011 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf National Championship, Grandover Resort (East Course) is a challenging course for this three-day event. The event features a field of 54 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

All four major champion winners from this season will be playing at the PKBGT INVITATIONAL. Lucia Polo (Greensboro, NC 2013), winner of the PKBGT MASTERS @ Salem Glen Golf & CC and ranked 114th nationally, is looking to defend her title as champion of the 2011 PKBGT INVITIATION @ Stoney Creek GC. Jessica Porvasnik (Hinckley, OH 2013), winner of the PKBGT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP @ CC of Salisbury and ranked 157th nationally, will be fighting to win at the PKBGT INVITATIONAL after her third place finish last year. Gina Kim (Chapel Hill, NC 2018), winner of the PKBGT PGS JR. GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP @ Bryan Park GC (Champions/Players) and ranked 321st nationally, will prove herself as a tough competitor to the field. Madison Moosa (Charlotte, NC 2017), winner of the PKBGT TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP @ Ocean Ridge Plantation (Lion’s Paw Golf Links) after a record breaking eight hole sudden death playoff and 298th nationally, will prove herself as a member of this elite field.

Additional competitors to watch out for, include: winner of the Boar’s Head Inn Classic @ Birdwood GC at the University of Virginia and ranked 238th nationally, Victoria Allred (Pfafftown, NC 2014); winner of the Richmond Classic @ Hunting Hawk GC with an amazing second round score of eight under par, ranked 262nd nationally and runner-up at the 2011 PKBGT INVITATIONAL, Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015); winner of the One-Day Open Series @ Bermuda Run CC (West) and One-Day Open Series @ Forest Oaks CC and ranked 429th nationally, Ashlii Thompson (Brown Summit, NC 2013); and winner of the Futures Division at the PKBGT TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP @ Ocean Ridge Plantation (Lion’s Paw Golf Links) and ranked 1335th nationally, Haeley Wotnosky (Wake Forest, NC 2018).

In addition to the above players, there are also some highly ranked players competing in the PKBGT INVITATIONAL. There are four of the top ten players from Maryland competing, including: Delaney Shah (North Potomac, MD 2016) ranked 2nd in the state and 619th nationally, Jordan McKelvin (Westminster, MD 2015) ranked 3rd in the state and 694 nationally, Rachel Lee (Woodstock, MD 2014) ranked 4th in the state and 725th nationally, and Allison Wong (Rockville, MD 2014) ranked 6th in the state and 920th nationally. There are nine of the top 14 players from North Carolina competing, including: Polo ranked 1st in the state, Allred ranked 3rd in the state, Cecily Overbey (High Point, NC 2014) ranked 4th in the state and 302nd nationally, Moosa ranked 6th in the state, Kim ranked 8th in the state, Thompson ranked 12th in the state, Tara Simmons (Goldsboro, NC 2013) ranked 13th in the state and 469th nationally, and Hannah Craver (Winston-Salem, NC 2013) ranked 14th in the state and 508th nationally. There are two of the top ten players from Ohio competing, including: Porvasnik ranked 1st in the state and Nikolette Schroeder (Avon Lake, OH 2015) ranked 5th in the state and 336th nationally. There are three of the top ten players from Pennsylviania competing, including: Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, PA 2015) ranked 6th in the state and 767th nationally, Shannon Gramley (Sharon, PA 2013) ranked 9th in the state and 766th nationally, and Allison Cooper (Harrisburg, PA 2015) ranked 10th in the state and 804th nationally. There is one of the top ten players from South Carolina competing, including: Kelsey Badmaev (Blythewood, SC 2013) ranked 8th in the state and 177th nationally. There is one of the top ten players from Tennessee competing, including: Alexandra Farnsworth (Nashville, TN 2014) ranked 2nd in the state and 160th nationally. There are two of the top ten players from Virginia competing, including: Brooks who is 3rd in the state and Khushboo Thiagaraj (Haymarket, VA 2014) ranked 8th in the state and 582nd nationally.

Bodfield wins CAROLINAS Invitational Qualifier

On Sunday, October 14, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the CAROLINA’S Invitational Qualifier @ Waterford GC. Waterford GC proved a challenging course for this two-day Invitational Qualifier. The event features a field of 19 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

Kennedy Bodfield (St. Catharines, Canada 2014) carded three over par with a score of 75 to place first with 78 + 75 = 153. Kensington Wieland (Loudon, TN 2013) carded six over par with a score of 78 to place second with 81 + 78 = 159. Jaelyn Tindal (Rock Hill, SC 2015) carded eight over par with a score of 80 to place third with 79 + 80 = 159. Bella Harris (Greenville, SC 2015) carded 13 over par with a score of 85 to place fourth with 85 + 85 = 170. Bodfield, Wieland, Tindal, and Harris receive an automatic invitation to PKBGT Invitational @ Grandover Resort (East Course) in November.

PKBGT would also like to congratulate Congrats to Kensington Wieland (Loudon, TN 2013) on her hole-in-one on hole #5, a 107 yard par 3.  This is Wieland’s second hole-in-one in her career.  Wieland’s hole-in-one is the fifth in PKBGT history.

PKBGT returns Saturday-Sunday, October 27-28 with the SOUTHEAST Invitational Qualifier @ Chateau Elan Resort (Chateau) in Braselton, GA. This is the third invitational qualifier of the season, bringing together players from across Carolinas, Georgia and Tennessee.

The event features a field of 20 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

The field features 20 players highlighted by six of the top 45 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round one, Kennedy Bodfield (St. Catharines, Canada 2014) leading the field by one stroke with a score of 78. CAROLINAS Invitational Qualifier Event Preview

The 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour tees off Saturday-Sunday, October 13-14 at the CAROLINA’S Invitational Qualifier @ Waterford GC. Waterford GC is a challenging course for this two-day Invitational Qualifier. The top four finishers in the qualifier will receive automatic entry into the PKBGT INVITATIONAL @ Grandover Resort (East Course) in November. The field features 20 golfers, highlighted by six of the top 45 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) in 7th position, Callista Rice (Mars Hill, NC 2017) in 17th position, Brittany Smith (Stanley, NC 2013) in 26th position, Carley Cox (China Grove, NC 2015) and Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) tied in 36th position, and Caroline Cox (Greensboro, NC 2013) in 44th position. Sarah Taylor (Rock Hill, SC 2014), Kinsey Soniat (Simpsonville, SC 2013), Kensington Wieland (Loudon, TN 2013), and Bella Harris (Greenville, SC 2015) will be playing in their first PKB event this season hoping to capture one of the four invitations to the PKBGT INVITATIONAL tournament.

The CAROLINA’S Invitational Qualifier @ Waterford GC brings together the top players from the Carolinas, Tennessee, and event Canada. It should be an exciting & challenging event.

Waller goes wire to wire at Mid-Atlantic Qualifier

On Sunday, September 30, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the MIDATLANTIC Invitational Qualifier @ Lakeview GC. Lakeview GC, home of the James Madison University Dukes men’s and women’s golf teams, proved a challenging course for this two-day Invitational Qualifier. The event features a field of 14 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

Lauren Waller (2015, Canonsburg, PA) carded a 71-76-147 three over par to claim her first PKBGT title.  The long hitting Waller closed with a 2-over par 38 on the back nine for a two shot win over Jordan McKelvin (2015, Westminster, MD) 74-75-149.  Rachel Lee (2014, Woodstock, MD) made a charge with back to back birdies on 13 & 14 before late bogies to finish in third, 73-78-151. 

The next to last pairing also featured great drama as Elizabeth Bose (2015, Norfolk, VA) and Louisville verball committee Shannon Gramley (2013, Sharon, PA) battled till the final hole for the final qualifying spot.  Bose was able to hold on with a bogey on the final hole to finish 76-81-157, one shot ahead of Gramley 77-81-158.  Waller, McKelvin, Lee and Bose receive an automatic invitation to PKBGT Invitational @ Grandover Resort (East Course) in November.
