Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour began as an initiative to increase quality tournament opportunities for girls. The primary focus is to give girls a venue to develop, compete and be recognized. The tour is supported and maintained by the LPGA-USGA Girls’ Golf programs of Greensboro, NC and Winston-Salem, NC.
Founder, Robert Linville, had a vision for the tour to provide girls with yardage-based divisions and an experience that gave girls an opportunity to grow as golfers and as people. The girls’ tour plays two divisions including its college preparatory “Bell Division” that plays 6,000 yards based on recommendations by college coaches, and the developing players “Futures Division” played on 5,200 yards. Throughout the past 5 years, sixty-five tour members have gone on to play collegiate golf at thirty-four different colleges and universities.
“The PKB Girls’ Golf Tour isn’t just teaching me about how you play, but how you treat the people you play with, and the people who work in the tournaments. Every single person who helps run these tournaments is out to help every single girl become a well rounded golfer and person. Without PKB I don’t think my appreciation for the game would be the same”, says Ole Miss Collegiate Golfer, Taelor Rubin.
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour boasts more than 235 participants and continues to be the largest and most successful girls’ only golf tour in the country. In its 5th year, the tour has expanded tournaments throughout the east coast and has members from 13 states. Striving to actively increase participation and interest in girls’ golf, the tour provides girls with affordable opportunities to develop their games and play in fields where they are the focus.
“Our goal is to give these girls a venue to compete where the center of attention is on them. There are no limits on fields, the pricing is affordable, and every event is geared towards the goal of making the tour a better experience for them”, says tour founder, Robert Linville.
